The MK 4 features a large 1″ diaphragm plated in 24kt gold to enhance conductivity, resist corrosion, and yield a tone based on the e 965 vocal mic. The cardioid polar pattern strongly rejects sound behind the mic while picking up side-entry sound without coloration. The mic’s low-noise circuitry further solidifies it as a studio mic capable of meeting the demands of digital recording systems. The finest sound structures are well resolved, while sound coming from the sides is picked up without coloration, which means that it does not alter the overall sound quality. Furthermore, the microphone has a very harmonious presence, featuring vivid mids and is also highly detailed in the bass range. At the same time, typical cardioid cancellation is relatively frequency-independent, which is unusual for a large-diaphragm mic.
